Alastair Cook Breaks Allan Border's Record for Most Consecutive Tests

New Delhi: Alastair Cook has added a fresh feather into his already illustrious cap as he broke legendary Australian all-rounder Allan Border's record of playing most consecutive matches in the longest format of the game, on Friday.

By playing the second and the final Test of the series against Pakistan at Headingley, Cook overtook Border's record of playing 153 consecutive Test matches. The English opener is now sitting pretty at the top with 154 consecutive Tests to his name and he could go on to add more to that tally in the coming months.

Cook now takes the numero uno spot ahead of the likes of some legendary cricketers like Australian duo Border and Mark Waugh and 'little master' Sunil Gavaskar.

In the last Test against Pakistan at Lord's, Cook matched Border's record and the former Australian superstar had heaped praise on the Englishman for managing to match his unbelievable feat.

"I didn’t realise anyone was getting that close in terms of consecutive Test matches, but it is an amazing thing. I’ve been a great fan of his (Alastair Cook) from a distance over the years. I don’t know him well, but we’ve got that Essex connection," Border was quoted as saying by Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper, ahead of the first Test.

"I spent two fantastic years playing there (Essex) and so I’ve watched his progress as a former player from the club. To have stayed fit and able to play that many consecutive games is remarkable," the 62-year-old added.
